Your Leash Extender Does More Than You Think

In [Part 1], we showed you how to secure two dogs in your car with one seatbelt. But this versatile piece of equipment solves three different problems for multi-dog owners.

1. Walk Two Dogs on One Leash (No More Tangles!)

Attach one clasp to each dog's harness or collar, clip your regular leash to the O-ring, and walk both dogs together.

Perfect for:

  • Different sized dogs (Cavoodle + Labrador? No problem!)

  • Reducing tangled leashes

  • Better control of both dogs

  • When you need a free hand

The adjustable feature means it works whether your dogs are similar sizes or completely different.

Pro tip: This is brilliant when you need a spare hand to open doors or carry things.

2. Training Control with No-Pull Dog Harnesses

Got a dog with a no-pull dog harness? These harnesses have both a front D-ring (for training) and a back D-ring (for stability).

The training technique:

  • Attach one clasp to the front D-ring

  • Attach one clasp to the back D-ring

  • Attach your leash to the O-ring

Why it works:

  • Front clip discourages pulling and gives you steering control

  • Back clip provides stability

  • Combined = maximum control for pullers or dogs in training

This is especially effective for large, strong dogs or puppies learning leash manners.

3. Car Travel for Multiple Dogs

As covered in Part 1, this is the game-changer for multi-dog families. Secure two dogs with one seatbelt, freeing up space for kids or more dogs.

The scenarios it solves:

  • 2 kids + 2 dogs (need 4 seatbelts, only have 3)

  • 4+ dogs (exceed 3 back seatbelts)

  • 1 adult passenger + 3+ dogs

Multi-Dog Car Travel Tips

Start Short: Build positive associations with brief trips to fun destinations (the park, not the vet!)

Take Breaks: Stop every 2-3 hours for water, bathroom, and stretching on long journeys

Never Leave Unattended: Cars heat up dangerously fast, even with windows cracked

Secure Everything: In an accident, loose items become projectiles. Secure bags, toys, and supplies.

Consider Relationships: If your dogs squabble, secure them separately or use a barrier

Bring Comfort: Favourite blankets or toys help anxious travellers

Common Questions

Q: Can I use collars instead of dog harnesses? A: NO. For car travel, always use dog harnesses. Collars put all force on your dog's neck in an accident or sudden stop, causing serious injury. Dog harnesses distribute force safely across the chest.

Q: What if my dogs are very different sizes? A: The adjustable feature accommodates different sizes. However, a Great Dane + Maltese might be more comfortable secured separately.

Q: Three dogs on one seatbelt? A: We don't recommend it. Two dogs per seatbelt is the safe maximum.

Q: Is this legal in Australia? A: Most Australian states require dogs to be properly restrained in vehicles. This system meets requirements when used correctly with safety-tested dog harnesses and car restraints. Check your local regulations.
