Still one of my favourite puppy litter photos from Hendricks and Maple - see Luna and Hazelnut in the back holding hands! Too cute and of course Poppy in the front wondering what I'm doing. Marmalade is in the middle. Hendricks was desexed after this litter.

Every time this photo pops up it makes me smile. If you are bringing home a new fur baby soon please remember that a DOG IS FOR LIFE NOT JUST FOR XMAS! and by that we mean their life. I don't believe in demonising breeders, some are amazing ethical breeders, knowledgeable, they research genes before breeding, they don't breed high disease risks or over breed, and make sure that their litters (and mums) are well looked after, socialised and loved. Some people have specific requirements that require certain breeds (like allergies) or have lifestyles that suit particular breeds and you absolutely should consider this before getting a dog. This may mean you definitely research someone who breeds that dog specifically. But I also encourage any one who can take on a rescue to do so too and I'm so happy when I see people take on senior or dogs with health concerns, that require extra care and love as not everyone can do that. BUT please remember most dogs in shelters are there through no fault of their own. They may have been abused, abandoned, surrended or they may have been dropped at shelters due to a change in personal circumstances whether that was a change in their own living conditions where they couldn't have pets, became homeless, or their health or finances declined, owner death, or a new baby, some treat pets like fashion accessories and aren't prepared for the responsibility, or even worse the puppy was cute - the shelters hear all reasons for dog surrender. So please consider if one of the fur balls needing a home is right for you too, I've seen so many lovely dogs that were rescues pop by the stall with their new owners and its just beautiful. Getting spoiled like they deserve. You never know who you might meet - your soul dog might be waiting for you right now!

Getting ready for markets is always ongoing and each market you return with another idea on how to do it better next time! Displaying all of our gorgeous Bandanas and Bows, Bow Ties and Collar Flowers are always difficult and wind blowing them around is even harder! DACHSHUND SWEATERS HAVE ARRIVED!!! 😍 My doxie models live in Queensland so it's too hot there for pics at the moment but I had to jump online and chat SWEATERS!!! We've got 3 colours - Hazelnut 🌰, Eucalyptus 🌿 and Chilli 🌶 and three sizes to suit most Dachshunds. You will also find that these sweaters may fit many other breeds as well so check the size chart against your pet. For example, size S/M fits my girls perfectly (they usually wear size XL in other sweaters).

Did you know there are 3 sizes of Dachshunds not just three coat types*? Standards, Miniatures and an even smaller size called Kaninchens (Rabbit Dachshunds). Originating in Germany the standard Dachshund was bred to hunt badgers and the smaller sizes, smaller prey like rabbits. A Kaninchen usually has a chest size of up to 30cm and weighs under four kilograms. They have a delicate build and a slightly daintier look than the other sizes. Whereas a Miniature Dachshund is a little bigger and usually has a chest size of up to 37cms by comparison and weighs about 4-5kgs with a standard Dachshund chest coming in around 45-47cms and weighing anywhere from 7-15kgs! Standards are typically considered more steady in nature and like most breeds the smaller you go the more lively you get but all are loyal, loving and affectionate. Kaninchens are not officially recognised by many countries / kennel associations but very popular in Europe.

Dachshunds are increasing in popularity in Australia too and with their unique body shapes so are their requirements for clothing. Its important to note that even Dachshunds with long coats feel the cold as they do not have double coats and their petite bodies mean they are sensitive to the cold so don't think that only a short hair sausage needs a sweater or a jacket in the cooler months - they all do! We are running low on our gorgeous corduroy sun caps!!! I restocked a little while ago on size S in pink and stone because they were completely gone after our Wollongong Pound Paws Dogs Day event, but our other colours are sizes are almost gone now as well! We've literally got the last caps left in most other sizes and colours. So make sure you jump online and get yours before they are all gone! These adorable caps have holes for ears and an elastic toggle to tighten around your pets chin and they are of course super adorable!

I've been getting feedback that they are great for pups with eye problems to help protect them from further damage or annoyance from sunlight too - so maybe consider one for your pet if they have eye issues but especially if you spend a lot of time in the sun outdoors with your babies.
